The Rev. Henry B. Gray

The Rev. Henry B. Gray, Minister of the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Auckland, was born at Glasgow in 1862. He took his arts course at the Glasgow University, and studied theology at the United Presbyterian Theological Hall, Edinburgh, where he completed his course of studies in 1888. On leaving college, he was appointed assistant at the Union Street United Presbyterian Church, Greenock, where he remained for some months. He was then ordained, and took charge of the Lochwinnoch United Presbyterian congregation near Paisley, in Renfrewshire, in November, 1889. Mr. Gray successfully ministered at Lochwinnoch for ten years and a half, and resigned the charge to take his present appointment at St. Andrew's Church, Auckland, where he arrived on the 31st of December, 1900. The members of Mr. Gray's Scottish congregation deeply regretted his departure for New Zealand, and at the final leave-taking they showed their appreciation of his many good qualities as a man and a minister by presenting him with a magnificent gold watch and a purse of sovereigns, and Mrs Gray with a massive gold bracelet. Mr. Gray married Miss Lundie, daughter of the late Mr. W. H. Lundie, of the Sheddan School, Auchterarder, Perthshire, and, in coming to New Zealand, was accompanied by his wife and their family of four boys.
