Mr. Thomas Jackson

Mr. Thomas Jackson, M.A., Principal of Prince Albert College, Auckland, was born at Bourne, Lincolnshire, England, in 1860, and is a son of the Rev. W. Jackson, Wesleyan minister. The subject of this notice was educated at Kingswood School, Bath, and, after seven years' training, accepted the position of assistant master in the same school. He was afterwards appointed headmaster of a school in Truro, Cornwall, and, after filling that position for some three years, arrived in Auckland in January, 1895, to take up the duties of his present appointment. Mr. Jackson gained his M.A. degree (with Honours in Classics) at the London University in 1887. For many years he has been a local preacher in connection with the Wesleyan Church, in which he takes an active part. In outdoor recreations, he is a member of the Mount Eden Tennis Club, and in his days of greater leisure was a cricketer and footballer of some prominence, having on several occasions figured in school representative teams. In 1892 Mr. Jackson married a daughter of Mr. A. Davey, of Romford, Essex, and has one daughter.
