Mr. Kenneth Watkins

Mr. Kenneth Watkins, Drawing Master of the Auckland Grammar School, was born at Ootacamunde, India, on 14th of June, 1847, and is the eldest son of Lieutenant-Colonel Watkins, H.I.C.S., was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, and afterwards completed his education at Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland. He then studied art under the celebrated M. Tarri, Cross of the Legion of Honour; at the age of 21 years he visited India and resided in Singapore for three years. Eventually, he arrived in Auckland in 1874 where he commenced the profession of an artist and became master of the Auckland Free School of Arts, which position he held for nine years. He then entered the service of the Board of Education and was appointed drawing master under the Board and to the Auckland Grammar School. Mr. Watkins was chosen president of the New Zealand Students' Association for three successive years and afterwards was elected president of the Auckland Academy of Art.
