The son of Mr. John Dean Bamford, one of the first solicitors practising in Canterbury, the subject of this notice was born in Shropshire, England, in 1846, and came with his parents to New Zealand in 1851 in the ship “Steadfast.” Educated in Lyttelton and Christchurch, Mr. Bamford studied law under Mr. W. Sefton Moorhouse and Mr. Justice Williams, and was admitted to the Bar in 1871. A year later he was appointed Examiner of Titles under the Government, and was at various times stationed at Napier, Blenheim, New Plymouth, and Nelson. He was transferred to Auckland in 1893. Mr. Bamford is also the Examiner of Titles, Registrar of Industrial and Provident Societies, Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, and Registrar of Building Societies.

Mr. Luke Hallam Holloway, Deputy Registrar of Deeds for the Auckland district, was born in Nottingham, England, in 1850. He is the youngest son of the late Mr. John Holloway, contractor, and was educated at the local grammar school, arriving at Auckland in the year 1865 in the ship “Lord Nelson.” After spending several years on the Thames and Coromandel Goldfields, Mr. Holloway accepted an appointment in 1879 in the local branch of the Land Tax Department, and was afterwards transferred to the Property Tax Department. Two years later he entered the Deeds Office, in which he has been several times promoted. Mr. Holloway's general and local knowledge has been of great service in the different offices he has filled. In 1874 he married the eldest daughter of Mr. W. Gilmour, of Rockhead, County Derry, Ireland, and has several children.
