Mr. William Crowther

Mr. William Crowther, sometime a member for Auckland City, was returned at the general elections in 1896 and was third on the poll, his successful colleagues being Hon. Thomas Thompson, minister of justice and defence, and Mr. Holland, mayor of Auckland. Mr. Crowther was then a very old citizen, who had retired on a competence a few years before. He was for many years an active and hardworking member of the city council and harbour board. After his entry into the wider field of parliamentary life, he proved himself to be an out-spoken, conscientious member, with a sturdy independent spirit. Mr. Crowther was re-elected at the general election of 1899, but died on the 14th of March, 1900.
