Mr. William Henry Pitcher, Chief Engineer of the s.s. “Rimutaka,” was born in Canada in 1855. After he had finished his education, he was sent to England and apprenticed as an engineer at the Government dockyards at Devonport. After completing his time he went to sea, and in 1884 joined the present Company. Mr. Pitcher was third engineer of the s.s. “Rimutaka” when she left the slips, being promoted to his present position in 1891. He is married, and has four children.
