Mr. George Pirie

Mr. George Pirie, who represents the Company in Wellington, was born in Scotland in 1843. He came to New Zealand in 1863, per ship “Silistria,” after receiving his education and serving an apprenticeship to the drapery trade. After arriving in Dunedin, page 714 Mr. George Pirie he was employed in a soft goods house, and was subsequently on the West Coast and in Wanganui in similar positions. In 1874, Mr. Pirie paid a visit to England, and on his return to the Colony, two years later, decided to settle in the capital. For three years, he conducted a draper's business at the corner of Cuba and Manners Streets, which was purchased by Messrs. Graves and Fleming, in 1879. Mr. Pirie then joined the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, with whom he remained as traveller till 1881, when he entered the service of the Mosgiel Woolen Company, in whose employ he still continues.
