The Cyclopedia of New Zealand [Wellington Provincial District]

Mr. George E. Tolhurst

page 506

Mr. George E. Tolhurst, J.P., Resident Inspector of the Union Bank of Australia, Limited, in New Zealand, has been in Wellington for upwards of twenty-two years. Mr. Tolhurst entered the Bank of New Zealand many years ago, and was for a long period manager of the Wellington branch of that Bank. In the report presented to the proprietors of the Union Bank on the 26th of January, 1891, he is announced as resident inspector of New Zealand. At this time Mr. Joseph Palmer, who had been chief officer for New Zealand since 1872, retired from that position and became local director for the Christchurch branch, the New Zealand head office of the Bank being removed to Wellington.
