Williamson, Daniel Holly

Williamson, Daniel Holly, Settler, Whenuakura. Mr. Williamson's parents came to the Colony early in 1847, staying in Wellington for a short time, and then started farming pursuits at Aramoho, Wanganui, where the subject of this sketch was born in 1854. He was educated at the Collegiate School, Wanganui. Mr. Williamson, when quite a boy, started upon his own account as a breeder of pure-bred shorthorn cattle, and at once came to the

page 1490 front as a successful breeder of stud cattle; having a keen eye, he soon proved to be a good judge of stock, his opinions on such subjects being generally very sound. Mr. Williamson is also a good pomologist and florist. He appears to have a special gift enabling him to produce fruit of the highest quality, and as a rose-grower his name is associated with all the horticultural societies' shows between Wellington and New Plymouth. In this connection he has taken fourteen champion prizes out of a possible fifteen. Mr. Williamson was an athlete in his younger days, being credited with doing his 100 yards in ten seconds; he was also a football representative of Wanganui.
