The Wanganui Licensing Committee controls the hotel licenses for the Wanganui District, and is elected every three years. The committee for 1896 were:—Messrs. C. C. Kettle, S.M. (chairman), T. Pamper, F. A. Cruel, T. D. Cumins, S. H. Manson, S. Neill, A. Higgie, W. Ritchie, and Rev. T. B. Maclean; clerk, Mr. A. D. Thomson. The meetings, which are fixed by the returning officer, Mr. Morton Jones, are held within the first ten days in March, June, September, and December in each year.
