Plimmerton, a seaside station, eighteen miles from Wellington by rail, is a favourite watering place, and is much frequented in summer by visitors from all parts of the province of Wellington. The surroundings are very pleasant, the beach is good, and for bathing purposes the bay has few rivals. Plimmerton House, which is referred to below, is the chief place of importance in the neighbourhood.
