Carry on Phil [1960]

Act 2. Scene 2

Act 2. Scene 2.

Outside the biggest wooden building in the world a small deputation has called upon the Leader elect—Phil Andrews—to go and rescue Walter from the clutches of the Russians. This is done, and a vast contingent of 10 (the remainder of the armed services being engaged on ceremonial duties) leave immediatly.

With A Little Bit of Luck

They seem to think I won't return to power,
They seem to think the boot I'm gonna get
They seem to think they'll sing "Now Is The Hour"
But with a little bit of luck, with a little bit of luck
There's some life left in the old dog yet.

With a little bit, with a little bit,
With a bit of luck he'll see it through.

The people put me here to give them money
That's why it's certain that they'll put me back
And so I've got to give the people money
But with a little bit of luck, etc.
I've got lots of ways to get it back.

With a little bit, with a little bit
With a bit of luck he'll get it back.

Oh in the House the margin's narrow,
But with a little bit of luck I won't get stuck.

Oh Labour makes it worth your while to marry
Having kids is such a lot of fun
You can do it all on "cash and carry"
But with a little bit of luck, etc.,
You'll content yourselves with only one
(They'll stop at one).

I've done a sum in adding and subtraction
Multiplied by fifteen bob a head
The answer is a rather vulgar fraction
But with a little bit of luck, etc.,
All the men might take to drink instead.
(They'll take to drink)

They're always throwing brick-bats at me
But with a little bit of luck a man can duck.

A man has got to help support the gov'ment
Which is the right and proper thing to do
A man has got to help support the gov'ment

The State will start supporting you.
(The State will too)

It's a shame to have to break a promise
Politicians do it with regret
It's a shame to have to break a promise
But with a little bit of luck, etc.,
I can break the lot and you'll forget.
They'll all forget

He'd rather have a large majority
Than a majority of only one
He doesn't have a large majority
But with a little bit, etc.,
He'll be back again in '61.
