Victoria College Students' Carnival. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 27 & 28, 1911

"Aedes Musarum."

page 5

"Aedes Musarum."

"We congratulate the one who gained the prize: Our sympathies, however, are with the ones who didn't."

Stock Phrase at Prize Distributions.

Now College a place is where all of the Graces
Together in force are found mustered,
We've men that are players, and men that are sayers:
No wonder opponents are flustered.
Oh! who then can vanquish our sportsmen?
Or who can out-argue our torts men?
On the platform or field
They never will yield,
Not Oram's, nor Rawdon's, nor Short's men.

Autumn: Wheezy, sneezy, freezy;
Winter: Slippy, drippy, nippy.

Clavis Calendaria.

One day, when the winter had come like a sprinter,
Although 'twas supposed to be autumn;
We gathered supporters and leapt in the waters;
Why, Frogs! You would think we had taught 'em.
The whales were not in it for splashing,
Or congers for wriggling and dashing,
While the mournful Prof. Laby,
Heroic as maybe,
Kept note of our great record-smashing.

But our field for renown in this peaceable town
Is really the making of noises;
We've a grand reputation—our chief occupation
They tell you is breaking our voices.
Sir Robert he says that our walking
Away when he'd just begun talking,
Proves that Zedlitz and Kirk
Are neglecting their work,
And our manners are really quite balking.

So Victoria's fame does not rest on the game
That we play when the rain is descending;
Though we venture to mention that there is contention
Most keen when our goal we're defending.
'Tis safe in the hands of our betters,
Who flourish in newspaper letters;
Let them say what they like,
We still have the "Spike,"
And can prove that we're nowise their debtors.
