Capping Songs.

De Rivo.

"He comes, he comes! We [unclear: bote] the head."

Up at the College where We go to gain our knowledge,
There's a little room quite snug beside the door,
On the right-hand side you'll find it,
With a little man to mind it,
And a mat to wipe your feet upon the floor;
The occupant of this snug crib is one who's ne'er been known to jib
When students ask to use the telephone,
And who cries, "Have you permission?"
And if so, '"What's then your mission?"
But to flattery, like all of us, he's prone.

You know our "janny," our much respected janny,
He's a man that's peculiar to the Coll.
He's as light as a feather,
And varies with the weather—
He is the boss of all.

When the lecture's over, students in the hall will hover,
Talking football, hockey, tennis and the like;
Though each talk's a pleasant item,
Yet our dear Prof. Brown don't like 'em,
And he's ordered it that students all must hike.
When the ladies fair come down the stair,
The men will saunter over there,
And hear what everybody's got to say;
But the janny comes, his eyes aglint,
And persons shrewd will take the hint
That in the Coll. 'twere safer not to stay.
Chorus:

When our Coll. begins to boom,
And here we have a common room
Where the students can put in an hour or two;
There'll be no need for provision
For so strict a supervision:
Student loiterers in the hall will be so few.
But we'll miss those gentle tones of his,
His kind advice, his ruddy phiz,.
When he asks us to create a lesser din;
And when there's none to cause comment.
He'll very likely soon repent
He thought our conversation such a sin.
Chorus:
