Sleep

page 10

Sleep.

"Kind sleep affords
The only boon the wretched mind can feel:
A momentary respite from despair."

Alzuma."

"Sleep on, you fat and greasy citizens" (with apologies to Jacques).

I.
We students have at last evolved a way of lectures utilising.
If to Profs. like ours you attention pay
It acts in a way that's most surprising.
For you shut your eyes and you hear no more.

Chorus:
In a deep, deep sleep till the lecture's o'er
In a deep, deep sleep
In a deep, deep sleep till the lecture's o'er
In a deep, deep sleep
In a deep, deep sleep with a long, long snore.

II.

Chorus:

III.

And the room is like a freezer,
Just try an hour with a Science Prof.
Or else with Brown or Julius Caesar,
And your troubles cease and you feel no more.
Chorus:

IV.
In Von Z's room for sleep one yearns,
In a way that's most pathetic
While Hughie Mac. on Bobbie Burns
Is like a dose of anaesthetic,
And you stretch yourself on bench or floor.
Chorus:

Ed. Note: A long, long sleep; perchance to dream; Aye, there's the rub.
