Victoria College Students' Carnival. Friday, 1st July, 1904.

Sublimi Feriam Sidera Vertice

Sublimi Feriam Sidera Vertice.

There's going to be a carnival this evening,
By far the choicest function of the year,
There'll be Profs, and College Councillors,
And—by great good luck—the Chairman, too,
To permeate the classic atmosphere.
Only bluest blood in that case will be welcomed,
How we'd like to be among the chosen few!
There will be a great ovation
Of especial ostentation
When our Chairman clears his throat for his debut.

Chorus:
For our Chairman is not at all vain, he
Is smart, though not too brainy,
Eloquent, accomplished, sparkling, gay—
But he can't help that, he was born that way.
When he steps forth so proudly
We'll sing his praises loudly.
We feel there's mutual love between us
And our L.L.D.

He's a gent that's most punctilious in his manners,
First time he's come to see us is to-day.
As we ponder on the symmetry
Of his classic physiognomy,
Sure we have to turn our bashful gaze away.
I declare to goodness we get quite hysterical,
And we don't know if to laugh or if to cry,
To think we've found a Chairman
Who can preach so fine a sermon,
Brother Evans could not beat him did he try.

Chorus.— For our Chairman, etc.

He's a gentleman that never needs twice asking
To sit down and watch the others do the work,
And though he doesn't hanker after all these barren honours,
He's not the man a chairmanship to shirk.
They say he rules the Council very strongly
With his indefinably intellectual air,
And we quiver with vexation
And grow black with indignation
When they wonder how he managed to get there.

Chorus.—For our Chairman, etc.
