On Wednesday, we visited the Caversham Tunnel, which is made apparently in the sand stone of the New Zealand Coal measures, altho’ no Coal is found at that place. Dunedin and its neighbourhood stand on Basaltic Rock Some quartz veins are said to run through the Tunnel, so that probably Gold may be found close to it. I ordered the Presentation Vase for Sir Geo. Bowen to commemorate the commencement of the Railway Works.
