page 93On the following morning our Mr Bell, C.E. arrived about Auckland Water Works, on which we were engaged all day. The English mail also arrived – 2 Mails in fact, I heard of a good scheme to drain Lake Ellesmere and thus obtain from 35 to 50,000 acres of good land, - and sent Bell to look at it. Then had special train to Lyttelton and left for Dunedin.
