McLean MS 32/700A
Napier, 8 February, 1876.To Piriamire Tu:
My dear friends,
Greetings to you, whom I neglected in our thoughts. I have arrived home well. This is the declaration of the Chief Electoral Officer:
Karaitiana | 415 |
Te Keepa | 377 |
Hikairo | 376 |
Te Hotene | 146 |
These votes have fallen away from the Government on account of the lack of an officer for the polling place at Kawakawa. Soon we will vote. When you hear you(plural) be careful and you(two) also about your(two) men for that day. However, when I know the day for that election i will go there again. The men for Te Wairoa, Nukutauru, Gisborne and Whangara are complete: one for Uawa, I am for you(pl.), one for Te Arawa, one for Wairarapa. These men will look into the votes by which we lost. Be extremely careful about the men for our election (area?). That is all. From your two little friends.
