Leopold Tyrmand was a well-known novelist and journalist in Poland before he went to live in the United States in 1965. Two of his novels have been translated into English: The Man With the White Eyes and Seven Long Voyages. During his stay in the United States Mr Tyrmand has written articles for The New Yorker, the Reporter and Dialogue (from) which magazine this interview has been reprinted), as well as a number of other publications.
