Online War Histories presented at Waiouru Army Museum Celebration! (November 1st, 2003)

The Director of the NZETC, Elizabeth Styron, presented the online Official History of the Second World War Project at the 25th Anniversary Celebration at Waiouru Army Museum on November 1. Elizabeth was included in the event by special invitation from Major-General Ken Gordon of the Kippenberger Military Archive and Research Library, and Major Kevin Chas Charlton, director of the Army Museum Waiouru. The presentation of the website was received with great enthusiasm by the Hon Phil Goff, the Hon George Hawkins and veterans of the New Zealand military service, many of whom were excited to discover they could search for friends and relatives quite easily in the online histories.

The day at Waiouru included a lively performance by the Army Band and a parade of armored and military vehicles from a range of eras and conflicts. To lend her visit a real flavour of the military life, Major-General Gordon arranged for Elizabeth to stay for a night in the officers' mess.

Special thanks to Waiouru Army Museum and the Kippenberger Military Archive and Research Library for including the War History project in the day's festivities!

New Zealand Defence Force support project

The New Zealand Defence Force Te Ope Kaatua O Aotearoa has announced it will help support the NZETC's project to digitise the Official History of New Zealand in the Second World War. The New Zealand Community Trust is also contributing funds to the project. At present 5 volumes have been digitised; the series consists of 50 volumes in total, and the generous assistance of these two sponsors will enable NZETC to continue building the digitised War Histories collection to include half the remaining volumes.
